He Couldn’t Afford To Keep His Military Dog Alive. What Happened Next Restored His Faith In Humanity.

Kay is an an 8-year-old Labrador/pit bull mix, and has spent the majority of his life serving his country in both Iraq and Afghanistan. After being rescued from a Texas shelter, Kay spent his time with the military sniffing out IUDs, and making sure soldiers like his handler (and now owner) Brandon Donahue were safe on the ground.

Now retired, Kay needs surgery for a tumor resting on his heart. Without the surgery, Kay could die in only a matter of months. Donahue, who estimates that Kay saved "thousands" while working in the military, knew he couldn't give up on his best friend, so he started a Internet campaign to raise the money for Kay's medical bills.

In only a matter of days, the Internet has helped Kay's family raise the amount they needed to pay for his surgery, and then some!

“Our faith in humanity was restored in the matter of hours,” Donahue wrote on his GoFundMe site. “Your acts of kindness will not go unnoticed.”

This is such a wonderful and fitting outcome for a dog who put his life on the line over and over again!
