Have you ever passed by an abandoned house, mall, or asylum and wondered what lurks beyond its doors?
Perhaps there’s hidden treasures, rich stories of peoples’ pasts, or at the very least, a creepy doll or two.
Personally, I never have. When I was in college, all my friends wanted to explore a haunted mansion and I was too chicken to walk inside. But apparently, I'm in the minority when it comes to creeping around old, creepy abodes.
Many people have a desire to explore long-forgotten dwellings and unlock their hidden secrets. People who act on this brand of curiosity are called "urban explorers" — and when they go to explore a forgotten place, they often bring a camera.
Recently, one urban explorer, Reddit user Z3R0C001, took a trip to Brazil, where he spent an afternoon in a crumbling hotel in Rio de Janeiro and snapped a few shots. The hotel was called The Hotel São Conrado, and was quite the happening place in the 1960s…
What he found in this once groovy 1960s hotel will make your heart race…
Here is the entrance to the once swanky digs.

The hotel was a hot spot in the '60s, but was abandoned when the owner filed for bankruptcy.

It has been empty ever since.

As you can see, it boasts some pretty sweet views.

I could sit out here all day and just take in the scenery.

The Brazilian coastline is gorgeous!

But as enticing as the view is, this sign of Satan lets us know there is something sinister waiting inside.

Apparently, this hotel has received its fair share of unwanted guests since it closed its doors…

…From humans and Mother Nature alike, as this crack from an earthquake illustrates.

But we’ve only scratched the surface. Let’s take a deeper look into this spooky site…

…Walk deeper into the belly of the beast…

…Oh my! This room is riddled with bullet holes!

Yet, one hole is bigger than all the rest, so let’s peek inside…

…It leads to an elevator shaft. Shall we climb down?

We land in a corridor. But wait, is there something in the distance?

Another hole! But — what’s inside???

A car! Plastered in more bullet holes!

How did this car even get here?!

But, wait, there’s more…

After walking up another set of stairs, there's…

…Materials used in a sorcery ceremony called “macumba,” which is a sort of witchcraft.

And these markings are from the “Red Command” cartel, which is notoriously known for arms and drug trafficking.

What a sad fate for this once beautiful hotel.
