Every family has certain belongings that they value above all others.
These are the irreplaceable things: precious memories and heirlooms like this Civil War-era sampler with a truly remarkable century-old secret. Of course, an object doesn’t have to be a hundred years old to have sentimental value.
For some people, their most precious belonging is a small memento of someone who passed, like these tiny dresses for babies who have passed on. For still others, the most priceless keepsakes are the photographs that help to record a family’s story.
Such was the case for the Jabarkhail family, who moved to Modesto, CA from Afghanistan just a few years ago. Mr. Jabarkhail had worked as an interpreter for the U.S. military, and the family was eventually forced to flee and seek asylum in the U.S. Their journey brought them through LAX airport in Los Angeles, where their wedding album somehow slipped free of their luggage and was lost.
The album, full of pictures of the family left behind in Afghanistan, had tremendous sentimental value, but wasn’t marked with a name, and was lost in a massive international airport. The Jabarkhails quickly gave up on ever seeing their photos again.
But they weren’t counting on the dedicated Lost and Found staff of LAX. Protocol is to discard or auction off lost items after 97 days, but the staff simply couldn’t bring themselves to throw the album away. Instead, they set about tracking down the family. And once they succeeded, they were ready to pull off a truly remarkable gesture.
If this kind-hearted team of airport employees warmed your heart with their dedication, please SHARE on Facebook for everyone who has ever found something they thought was gone for good!
