Any parent with young children knows traveling is hard work. You have to remember to pack snacks, toys, wipes, and more. You also have to prepare yourself for the judgment of others who just might not get it. One mom got shamed on a recent United Airlines flight when her daughter was messy with popcorn. Her husband, baseball player Anthony Bass, was not having it.
Anthony took to Twitter to vent about the experience. He could not believe a flight attendant made his pregnant wife get on her hands and knees to clean up popcorn that the airline had given his children. He was not pleased.
“The flight attendant @united just made my 22 week pregnant wife traveling with a 5 year old and 2 year old get on her hands and knees to pick up the popcorn mess by my youngest daughter. Are you kidding me?!?!” Anthony wrote on Twitter.
The outrage over this incident was a family affair. Anthony’s wife is Sydney Rae Bass. Her sister is country singer and reality TV star Jessie James Decker. Jessie vented her frustrations on Instagram stories.

"Blaire accidentally spilled some popcorn in the aisle and the flight attendant came up to Sydney with a trash bag, and a wet wipe, telling her the captain wants Syd to clean every drop," Jessie wrote. "My poor sister is on her hands and knees, crying in the aisle, completely humiliated and exhausted, with her children while everyone else watched. Way to go, united."
Anthony did receive some push-back on Twitter.
“Be a decent human and if your going to give your kid popcorn on a plane be prepared to pick it up. My toddlers loved Cheerios but they were messy, I would never had served them cheerios on a plane,” wrote one user.
Anthony responded: “You are the perfect parent. You can do no wrong.” He was not open to taking criticism from this person.
Another user asked why his wife was even flying in the first place. Anthony had an answer for this as well.
“She is permitted to fly for a few more weeks according to her doctor,” he said.
While United Airlines declined to comment on this story, Anthony did give a final update. “United Airlines is taking care of matters with the flight attendant internally,” he wrote. Sounds like he is getting the resolution he wanted.
Anthony and Sydney were married in 2017. Their first child, Brooklyn Rae, was born on September 4, 2017, at 28 weeks, making her a preemie. They adopted their daughter Blaire in October 2020. Sydney announced her current pregnancy in an Instagram post on February 1, 2023.
