How To Turn An Old Door Into An ‘Antique’ Headboard

Elizabeth Kaiser takes a tattered old wooden door and completely transforms it. The next time you see an old door like this lying in your neighbor's trash, you'll definitely want to upcycle it using this tutorial. Elizabeth turns the door into an amazing headboard with an "antique" finish. The result is a beautiful shabby-chic effect fit for any bedroom. If you don't need a headboard, check out this article on how to turn an old door into a bench.

First, she cuts the door to fit the size of her queen-size bed. Next, she sands down any of the loose paint left on the door. Then she uses a wet rag to clean it off. She then adds two fresh coats of yellow paint (the shade should be lighter than the color you want really want it to be). Next, she paints over the yellow with red paint. Elizabeth lightly sands all angles of the door. This way the yellow pops out of the red, giving it that rustic antique look. It's quite the clever technique. Lastly, she adds the legs. Now, she has a gorgeous one-of-a-kind headboard!
