It's 2016, and we all want to make incredible changes to our lives. Many of us may want to lead a more enlightening lifestyle, and some of us just want to get fit and healthy.
One man in Australia is trying to attain all of the above by going through a rather drastic diet change: for the whole of 2016, he is planning on only eating potatoes.
In an interview with Melbourne's 9News, Andrew Flinders Taylor expressed his reasons for going on this extremely peculiar diet.
And just like this grandmother who was inspired by the birth of her grandson to lose weight, Andrew has found a new purpose in his life — to slim down, to think positively, and to monitor his own body and health like he's never done before.
Initially, his diet seemed pretty shocking, but I have to say, his reasons for wanting to transform his life eventually won me over…

Andrew Flinders Taylor, 36, from Melbourne, recently declared that he would go on an extreme diet for 2016 — saying that he would eat nothing but potatoes for the entire year.
He first grew intent on following through with the diet when he wished to improve his “relationship with food,” according to Melbourne’s 9News.
It turns out that he wished to use his new diet in order to curb his binge eating.
“I wanted to change the way I thought about food so that it’s not really controlling my life,” he told 9News.
Currently, he is documenting his experience on his Facebook page, Spud Fit, and on his YouTube channel, which has attracted more than 1,000 fans.
At the beginning of February, he weighed just a little over 330 lbs. — something that irked and frustrated him greatly.
This was a sign of a “food addiction,” as he called it.
To combat his addiction, and to stay healthy at the same time, Andrew is planning on getting up to 99 percent of his calorie intake from potatoes, and the remaining one percent from sauces and simple seasonings.
His diet may seem a little controversial — as it relies heavily on one food source — but to Andrew, it’s best that he “choose one kind of food and just stick with it.”
He does have a very good point when it comes to justifying his choice: “Lots of people in the past have lived on nothing but potatoes,” he said.
Many people do think of potatoes as empty calories, but Andrew stresses that the root vegetable can be eaten as a health food.
His plan may be more solid than we think — he is not planning on using oil to prepare any of his meals, and is already feeling more energetic and ready to exercise.
To date, he has already enjoyed his potatoes with maple syrup, barbeque sauce, chili sauce, capsicum, and garlic-smoked sea salt.
Doctors have warned him that he may not be getting all the nutrients for his health.
He will definitely get enough carbohydrates, but most likely will not get enough fat, protein, omega-3 fats, iron, and zinc.
They are convinced that Andrew is motivated to take care of his body, but that he’s not going about doing it in the right way.
To those who doubt him, Andrew can only say: “I can see why people would think it’s a potential health risk, but I’ve done research and I’ve done blood tests and I’m doing it with the blessing of my doctor, who is a qualified dietician,” he said.
He makes sure to strictly measure his daily nutritional intake each day, and is starting to add sweet potatoes to his diet.
“I’m not… [promoting] this to anyone else,” he said. “I’m just doing this as an experiment for myself.”
