Of all animals, monkeys and apes are perhaps the smartest of them all. Our close kinship with them allows us to communicate with them in a way we can't with our pets, though they are wild animals. At times, it seems like they can understand love and compassion, and even our humor!
It looks like monkeys also share our sense of wonder when faced with the unexplained. This baboon couldn't believe his eyes when a zoo visitor showed him a special trick!
The man faces the glass of the baboon's exhibit, and takes out a card-shaped slip of paper. He holds it up in front of the monkey's face to make sure that he sees it…
Then, in the blink of an eye, the visitor makes the card disappear! And the baboon is absolutely baffled by the disappearing card. He's so shocked that he slams the ground with his hands, and his jaw drops — it definitely seems like he understood!
But when the zoo visitor makes the card reappear, the baboon reaches for the card, as if to make sure that it's real. I know that if I were in his place, I would do the same!
Now watch when the visitor tries the trick one more time…
