Family Makes Split-Second Decision To Throw Baby Out Of Window To Save Her Life

Alyssa Meara and Chris Pena were put into an unthinkable situation. The mother and father of 7-month-old Avaleigh, they had to make a split-second decision, one that would either kill their young daughter or save her life. The family was in their apartment on the third floor when a fire broke out, and it instantly filled with black smoke.

The neighbors screamed that they needed to get out or die. But there was nowhere to go. The only way out was through the third-story window. Alyssa was holding her baby out of the window so that the smoke wouldn't suffocate her. Then the mother and father made the decision to let her go. They dropped Avaleigh out the window, and miraculously she was caught by a neighbor. There was barely a scratch on her.

Alyssa and Chris jumped out of the window, too. While Alyssa is OK, Chris is still recovering from a fractured vertebrae. The family is lucky to be alive.

“We thank God every day that we are still here and that our baby is still here and she’s OK. God was watching over us,” Alyssa told KVDR.
