This Wednesday, animal activists globally are celebrating World Elephant Day, now in its fourth year and geared at raising awareness about the ongoing threats to dwindling elephant populations worldwide.
Canadian documentary filmmaker and director of World Elephant Day, Patricia Sims, hopes that world recognition will help ensure the safety and habitats of endangered elephants (a staggering 100,000 African elephants were slaughtered between 2010 and 2012).
“On World Elephant Day, August 12, and beyond," said Sims, "we encourage individuals and organizations worldwide to take action, spread awareness, and share effective ways to help save and protect elephants, and support the many commendable elephant conservation initiatives."
The little nugget in the video below is a calf named Faa Mai, the first baby elephant born at the Elephant Nature Park to her mother, Mae Bua Tong. Elephant Nature Park, an elephant rescue sanctuary in Northern Thailand, is an esteemed center for rehabilitation that has received praise from international media.
Perfectly pleased with the ribbon alone, Faa Mai manages to entertain herself while her mother stands nearby with a park volunteer. During an intimate moment between the two at around the minute mark, Faa Mai and her guardian share a sweet exchange that serves to prove just how emotive and caring these animals really are.
Faa Mai is a joyful reminder of the majesty of these incredible creatures on World Elephant Day. Please SHARE this video with your friends on Facebook!
