In September of 2015, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust rescued their very first orphaned baby giraffe named Kiko, and the video below follows him on his new journey. Kiko, who was abandoned by his mother and quickly needed safe refuge from predators, was flown to an orphanage in Nairobi by Sky Vet. This incredible flight spared him an otherwise hot and grueling seven-hour journey via foot. Despite his age and fragility, Kiko remained calm and peaceful in his makeshift cradle, ready and willing to begin his next chapter with his heroes by his side.
Kiko has proven to be amazingly trusting and affectionate, happy to befriend the men who had rescued him. He's also found a special kinship with two of the Nursery's latest addition to the animal family: two baby elephants. As if this video couldn't get any more wonderful, watch as Weiwei and Loboito spend time under Kiko's belly, resting their trunks on his side and neck. "Kiko is extremely playful these days, with limbs splaying in all directions, he hurtles around the car park and in the open forested glades, letting off steam," the Trust writes on its website.
