In the Middle Ages, mistletoe was associated with fertility and vitality. While it's unclear exactly how it came to become a Christmas kissing tradition all around the world… there is a slight connection to ancient beliefs.
I don't know about you, but I haven't really seen too many mistletoes hanging in recent years. It seems like there's been a steady decline in the tradition of kissing under the mistletoe. Besides, I'd be totally surprised to see anyone actually follow through with the tradition even if it was hanging right in the doorway.
Blake Grigsby has been known to pull some harmless pranks in the past… though I wouldn't call them pranks as much as I'd say they're ways of making people smile. Last Christmas, he decided to take to the Chicago Christmas market and bring the mistletoe tradition back on a huge scale.
When he first walks out into the open with the mistletoe contraption sticking out of his backpack, I didn't think that anyone would even give him a second glance. But when one person steps up, face-to-face? I can't believe what unfolds! This made so many people's days much brighter, and is a reminder that it only takes one simple gesture to spread holiday cheer to everyone around you.
Listen to what a guy in the background says at 1:48… too funny!
