The Metro Richmond Police Emerald Society paid tribute to a fallen Trooper Chad Dermyer with a beautiful performance at his vigil.
Trooper Dermyer, a husband, father, and U.S. Marine Corps veteran, was shot and killed while on duty after he confronted a suspect at the Greyhound bus terminal in Richmond, VA, on March 31, 2016. He was 37.
The band, which consists of officers from Virginia's Greater Richmond Area who embrace Irish and Celtic traditions, marched into the VCU's Siegel Center to play a rendition of "Amazing Grace." It was a memorable tribute similar to the time an airline employee sang the national anthem for a fallen soldier who would be on the flight.
As family and friends mourn the fallen officer, a fellow trooper with the Virginia State Police praised him for the life he lived.
"It's been hard to take in and accept the fact that somebody with so much life as Chad can be gone in an instant," Trooper Joseph Napier told 13News Now. "Chad is more alive today than he ever was. Through what he's done and the person he personified even now while he's resting, he still can draw people together."
