This epic "Barn Raising Dance" caused quite a stir in 1954. The scene is from the Academy Award-winning film Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
The film takes place in 1850 Oregon. Adam and his six brothers — biblically named in alphabetical order: Benjamin, Caleb, Daniel, Ephraim, Frankincense and Gideon — are mountain men searching for wives.
When Adam arrives at a small town he meets Milly, who teaches him and his brothers social mores, manners, and how to dance. The brothers each fall in love with six of the women there, too.
In the scene you're about to watch, the brothers try to sway the women away from their current suitors with their incredible dancing and acrobatic skills.
If you've ever seen the Ross Sisters' dance to "Solid Potato Salad," you know that dancers from the 1940s and '50s had some serious skills.
The film is known for Michael Kidd's interesting choreography and is solidified in history as a must see because of it.
