Macaw parrots are regal-looking birds that are known the world over for their gloriously colorful plumage and loud, screeching tendencies that, in the wild, have been reported to be audible from up to five miles away. They are highly intelligent, and therefore easily pick up behaviors and tricks. Because of their high intelligence levels, it is important that these beautiful birds are cared for by experienced owners who are willing to dedicate the time and attention required to keep the Macaw parrot intellectually stimulated.
Generally, attentive parrot owners who are willing to put in the time are rewarded in kind for their efforts by the macaw's uncanny abilities. Of those abilities, there is perhaps none more arresting than a parrot’s ability to mimic not only the human voice, but the inflections and idiosyncrasies of those who they spend a lot of time with. And, every once in a while, they come up with something completely unexpected.
This clip, shared by YouTube user Drake Dracke, is a perfect example of how, sometimes, even the most talkative of parrots can slip a little something unexpected into his narrative. While it’s clear that this is one very well looked-after parrot, even his owner is surprised when he adds a little something more to his repertoire.
Although we can’t be sure, we’re guessing that he learned it from the cat…
