Robert Hartwell is a successful Broadway actor who has starred in shows like Hello, Dolly! and Motown: The Musical.
A few years ago, Robert took to Instagram to share a photo of himself standing proudly and smiling widely in front of the gorgeous new home he'd just purchased.
It's the home's history that makes this such an incredible story.
Robert learned the house was originally built by slaves in 1820 for the Russell family, who owned a cotton mill back when slavery was legal. The moment Robert walked inside the home, he knew it was meant to be his and that he could honor his ancestors who came before him 200 years ago by filling the home with love and compassion.

However, Robert's real estate agent said the owners were taking only cash offers. The agent figured he wouldn't be able to make the purchase, anyway.

"Don't you ever underestimate a hard working black man," Robert wrote in the Instagram post.
