It was a nightmare for all involved. Seymour Fenichel with his accomplice, a woman disguised as a nun, spent the '70s and '80s preying on pregnant young and single mothers, along with parents seeking adoption. So many lives were ripped apart because of this one man who would coerce expecting mothers into thinking their babies would have a better life, all the while charging adoptive parents upwards of $35,000 for children they would never meet!
One of those babies was Sarah Hudson. Her mother Kathleen Rhodes was a teen mother. Kathleen and her boyfriend — who would become her husband — were told they could meet her daughter when she turned 18. This was a lie. When Sarah was born, Kathleen held and fed her in the hospital. As the couple was exiting through the parking lot, the "nun" ran up to her, ripped Sarah from her arms, then got into a getaway car with Seymour.
Sarah always wanted to know where she came from. After she suffered a life-threatening blood clot, but could provide the doctors with no medical history, she knew it was time to get serious about her search. She discovered a Facebook group devoted to the hundreds of Seymour's "black market babies."
The supportive group told her to try searching through old phone book records on microfilm at the library. With only a last name, she found her grandfather. Through him, she able to find Kathleen. Finally, Sarah knew who she was, and learned her parents stayed together and had four daughters.
"I have been waiting for you to find me. I've always loved you. I've always thought about you," Kathleen said. And the rest is history!
