You never know how your kind words or gestures could change the course of someone’s day or even their life journey. That’s why it’s so important to lead with your heart and treat others how you want to be treated.
Fate dealt 16-year-old Chauncy Black cards that most of us could never imagine having to live with, let alone at such a young age.
According to CNN, Chauncy was waiting outside a Kroger store in Memphis, Tennessee, when he offered to carry a man’s groceries in exchange for some doughnuts. Little did he know that this simple act would drastically change his life.
The news outlet reports that the man Chauncy approached was named Matt White. Matt recalls that he looked at Chauncy and immediately thought he was “really brave” even though his face appeared “kind of broken” and he “looked hungry.”
After the teen and Matt crossed paths, Matt went back into the store and bought him some groceries and even offered to give Chauncy a ride home. That was when Matt met Barbara Martin, Chauncy’s disabled mother.

After learning about a burglary that left them with just a couch and a few lamps, Matt decided to set up a GoFundMe account called “Chauncy’s Chance.” CNN reports that the initial goal was to just raise $250 to buy Chauncy a lawnmower that he could use to mow lawns in his neighborhood to earn some extra cash for his family, but things quickly took off.
