Boy Waits Outside House For Days, Dad Discovers Unthinkable Truth When He Returns Home

Gerald Johnson returned home to Illinois after serving in the Army. He was looking forward to reconnecting with his loved ones, but when he finally stepped foot through his front door, he immediately noticed a strange feeling in the house.

His former lovingly noisy home was now eerily quiet. He made his way to the living room and found his son Toby sitting down and staring at a blank television. The 11-year-old seemed like a shell of his former self as he was completely withdrawn.

Gerald tried to make conversation with his son and get him talking but all he was met with were mere whimpers. His wife, Susan, was working a nursing shift at the local hospital, but Gerald didn’t want to wait to speak to her. He immediately stepped out of the room and called his wife to tell her about his concerns for their son.

Susan told Gerald that everything was fine and Toby was just going through a phase. She reassured him that she had taken proper care of him while he was away on deployment and he’d likely snap out of it shortly.

Gerald offered to take his son out on a fishing trip, but Toby had no interest. He looked to his wife for some solace, but Susan seemed to be somewhat resentful about her husband’s return, as it felt like a constraint on her newfound independence.

Without knowing what else to do, Gerald decided to watch back some home video surveillance footage to see if he could spot anything that made sense of his son’s behavior. In the video from a few weeks ago, he saw his son come up to the porch and never enter the house. He sat outside on his own for what seemed like several days. Gerald was utterly confused.
