Canadian Teen Started Her Own Beauty Company After Dealing With Persistent Skin Issues

If you really think about it, almost everything about children and what makes them tick and gets their creative juices flowing stems from a need to just play while also cultivating their industrious selves and ultimately figuring out what they’re passionate about.

This was indeed the case for Canadian teen Sariah Morgan.

According to CTV News Toronto, from the young age of just 6 years old, Sariah showed a real love for all things beauty and played with her mother’s and older family members’ makeup.

Despite enjoying the process, Sariah soon discovered that her skin would break out in rashes and show irritation to various creams and cosmetics. At the age of 12, she decided she wanted to start her own beauty line for people who experienced similar qualms.

Launched in October 2021, iAH Beauty offers a variety of natural, cruelty-free, vegan, and hypoallergenic lip glosses in a number of shades and finishes.

According to BramptonGuardian.com, Sariah’s dreams started to come to fruition when she entered a girl boss pitch contest sponsored by Power to Girls Foundation in December 2020. She felt inspired by watching her parents run a business of their own and decided to use the $500 prize money from the contest to help fund the launch of her beauty business.

Even though manufacturing for the line happens in the United States, Sariah is constantly researching how she wants her brand to look and continually tests each of the products along the way. She really does not care for super-sticky lipgloss.

Sariah spoke to Breakfast Television and explained that both her father’s entrepreneurial mind leading him to discuss important but often not-talked-about topics such as finances with her and her mother’s feelings on giving back and empowering those around her have continually inspired her from a young age.

As a sensitive skin gal, she credits key ingredients such as vitamin E, jojoba oil, and shea butter as ones to choose for those who suffer from sensitive skin or eczema, like herself.

Sariah finds it really cool that she’s had some of her teachers buy and wear the lip glosses from her beauty line.

So, how does a 13-year-old stay on top of her studies and everything else that comes along with being an eighth grader in school all while being the CEO of her own beauty brand? She tells BramptonGuardian.com that she simply looks for “finding balance” and works on anything school-related during the weekdays and concentrates more on her beauty line on the weekends.

In a cool twist, Sariah notes that her brand name also works as a source of inspiration. “iAH beauty is a part of me. It’s the ending of my name … and I created a beautiful meaning behind it, which is: 'I am her — beauty. I am her — strong. I am her — unique. And you are Her too!'” she tells Breakfast Television.

Sariah hopes to continue to grow her business, and along with her 6-year-old sister who runs Bossari Kids, a kids’ accessories brand, they have founded Young Bosses in Businesses, a collective of pop-ups for young entrepreneurs and business owners.

“I am extremely proud of her. Like, she’s just always been a star and I’ve kept telling her that. She’s a star,” mom Shantelle Morgan tells CTV News Toronto.
