Hair guru Niki from the Fancy Hair YouTube channel has delivered a very useful and very important video. There's a hair trend making waves that requires nothing but a flaming candle. The method has been used for decades and has seen new popularity recently. Niki wonders, is it totally genius or totally insane? Candle cutting, the process of using a lit candle to burn off split ends seems effective at first, but according to Niki, it actually causes far more damage.
"I feel like every day there is a new trend circulating the beauty industry… I am all for a good beauty secret, but when it comes to your health, safety and sanity, some things are not worth it," Niki says. She explains that human hair has a melting temperature of 450 °F, while a burning candle flame can get hotter than 1500 °F — melting your hair is just not good for it. The reason why most look good after candle cutting isn't because of the process, but rather what comes after. Most women get deep conditioners that make hair look soft and healthy afterward, convincing them that they haven't damaged their hair.
Instead of candle cutting, Niki provides two ultra-simple and effective ways to achieve the same results as candle cutting without damaging your hair. All you need is a pair of scissors and your fingers! Watch her awesome method below.
