Houston, Texas Woman, 25, Is Killed After Revealing Her Pregnancy To Her Boyfriend

Cavanna Smith, 25, was getting ready to embrace a brand-new role in life: motherhood.

It's something that not too many people in her circle knew about just yet. But in the investigation into the death of Cavanna, it's an important fact. Sharing that news with her boyfriend, 25-year-old Kwanmaine Travion Boyd from Houston, could have possibly been the reason for her death.

While searching for clues and evidence, police found a greeting card addressed to her boyfriend that shared the news that they were expecting. At the time of her death, Cavanna was a little over four weeks pregnant.

At that stage, not too many women even know that they're pregnant. But Cavanna found out early. At 6:42 a.m. on the day she was murdered, reports state that Cavanna had sent a text to her sister that seemed worrisome. "I'm at this location getting my money if anything happens to me," she wrote.

During the search of the home, investigators found other items regarding Cavanna's pregnancy — such as an ultrasound dated on October 5 her name on it, along with two positive pregnancy tests. But the texts were a huge clue that even Cavanna knew something was up.

After sending the location text, Cavanna reportedly called a friend. While the friend picked up the call, they said the call was muffled and they couldn't hear much. Then the phone hung up. It's likely the friend just assumed it was a pocket dial at the time, having no clue what was really happening.

Cavanna was reportedly getting money right by where Kwanmaine lived. Her car was even spotted in his driveway. The next text that Cavanna send stated that she was kidnapped. Thinking it was a joke, the friend responded back with, "Why are you playing? Stop playing with me."

Her response was, "I'm not I'm in the back of Kwan truck." At 6:44, she sent her final text. "He got my money and don't wanna give it to me." After the friend tried to call her back, they only reached Cavanna's voicemail. Some witnesses state that they saw Cavanna arguing with someone who could have been Kwanmaine, and many believe that they saw he was holding a gun.

Other witnesses state they saw Kwanmaine shoot Cavanna in the head before walking away and entering a white pickup truck. When Cavanna was found, she was reportedly dead at the scene. No matter what, Kwanmaine is a person of interest in the case — and currently he's on the run.

The incredible number of friends and family members who were blessed to have Cavanna in their lives are now grieving the unexpected loss while searching for answers — as well as justice. Based on their clues, it seems as if Cavanna was excited about the pregnancy, even though it wasn't planned.

The greeting card police found reportedly says, "Kwan, I know this isn't what we expected but WE ARE expecting!!!" They also found a receipt from back in September for a 9 mm firearm, 9 mm 124-grain ammunition, and 5.56 x 45 mm ammunition. Those matched up with the bullets that were found at the scene of the crime, further linking Kwanmaine to the event.

Police have located the abandoned car of Kwanmaine but have found no trace of him. Based on what they know, along with Cavanna's texts from the trunk, they've officially charged him with capital murder. He's been in trouble with the law a few times prior for lesser charges.

Cavanna's sister, Brittany Wilson, has no doubt that Kwanmaine was the man who killed her. She had an interview with ABC13 where she shared what she knew about their relationship.

"He shot her like she was a dog, and I wouldn't even do that to a dog," she said. "When you imagine someone would shoot a dog and just leave them like an animal, in the middle of the street."

She also clarified that Kwanmaine wasn't happy at all regarding the news. "He was not happy and said he did not want any more children," Brittany stated. Unfortunately, it appears as if he handled the situation the worst way he could. Now Cavanna's family is mourning a life cut short.
