The holiday season is the season of giving, and it's called that for a very good reason! While we're all relaxing with our loved ones, we're reminded of how much we have, and how much we have to be appreciative of.
It was therefore appropriate that one of John Willis' lessons for his personal finance class was the lesson of giving.
In preparation for the class, Willis had his students collect their change for two and a half months to give to a very special person: their favorite waitress, who always treats them like family.
Every so often, Willis takes the high school class for a study session at the restaurant where Martha works. She serves them every time, and the students have grown to love her. She was the lucky recipient of all the money they pooled, a whopping $1,500!
A cell phone camera caught the waitress' emotional reaction to the generous gift. She is absolutely speechless — it's something she says has never happened before!
Surely, these high schoolers learned that just a small gesture can mean a world of difference in someone's life. Giving is important, whether it's now or any other time during the year!
