She Turned This Vintage Clawfoot Bathtub Into A Gorgeous Planter

When I envision my ideal home, I picture it bursting with gorgeous antique details. A huge farmhouse sink, beautiful fireplaces, built-in shelving… The older, the better.

But if there's one antique feature I yearn for most of all, it's a beautiful clawfoot bathtub. There's just something so charming about these massive, elegant tubs that I simply can't resist.

However, whenever I visualized the tub of my dreams, I always imagined it in my powder room. It never occurred to me to place it in a truly unique or creative place — like my backyard.

But when I saw what these crafty folks did with their old tubs, I instantly fell in love. Now I'll know what to do if I come across a tub that's still in gorgeous shape — but perhaps not good enough to be bathed in.

When Jamie was challenged to tackle the mess in her backyard — where she keeps supplies and scraps for future DIY projects — she knew it would be no easy task. But she had her eye on the prize: her vintage clawfoot bathtub.

But to get to it, she would first have to clear away all the scrap lumber she had no use for. She was nervous about spiders, but she trucked on.

Once she had made her way to the tub, it was time to get to work. The first step in her remodeling plans was to give it a new paint job.

She wanted it to have a very unique sheen, so she started by giving it a flat black base.

Next, Jamie took an old T-shirt and rubbed the tub down with gold gilding wax.

Once that was dry, she filled the old tub with soil and planted some annuals and perennials.

After that was done, she glammed up this old water pump — something that had once belonged to her grandpa.

When it was complete, her tub was a gorgeous garden statement piece! But Jamie isn't the only DIY-er to use an old powder room essential in a creative way.
