What does a Mounds bar, piña colada, and hula dancer’s favorite bra have in common? Coconuts!
Coconuts are pretty amazing when you think about them. They provide us with milk, aromatic oil, and the main ingredient in the greatest cookie that the Girl Scouts have ever created — Samoas!
They also have a hard shell that can be used for various things like bowls, jewelry, and mock horse hooves sounds, which were prominently used in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
But Imgur user IamALegend just thought of a new use for coconut shells that’s so brilliant it would make a pirate jealous. In fact, I think it's such a great idea, I'm going to try it out myself. It also seems really easy and the final product is really cool.
And all you need is a coconut, a few nuts and bolts, a saw, and…
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, though. Let’s start out with finding the right coconut, one that’s perfectly round. Once found, saw it in half.

Then you need to take all its meat out. Save it for a pie. You’ll thank me later.

Then drill a hole for the nuts and bolts.

Make sure to tighten the nuts just enough and not too tightly: “A coconut is like a thick egg so it will crack,” warns IamALegend.

Add a hinge.

Once everything’s installed, it’s time to varnish the coconut and make it all pretty and glossy.

What the heck is it?

It’s a coconut safe! Perfect for hiding ‘your’ treasures! Arrgh!
