1. Neglecting To Clean Your Brushes

Although these tools may look like they're clean, brushes are loaded with bacteria, dead skin cells, dirt, debris and oils that aren't visible to the naked eye.

If you aren't already, you should be cleaning your brushes quite often, especially if you use your brushes on a daily basis. And the best part is that it's extremely easy to do — just use dish soap you already have on hand! Give the hairs a quick rinse, gently scrub in a bit of soap, then rinse again and finally dry lying down.

2. Sleeping With All Your Makeup On

Most of us are aware that this isn't good for our skin, but when we get tired, it's too easy to convince ourselves to wait until the morning to clean our makeup off.

But in reality, this is a bad habit for several reasons — you could be risking common breakouts or risking an infection, according to Good Housekeeping. So, do your skin a favor and make sure you clean off your daily makeup before hitting the hay!

3. Using Your Finger To Apply Foundation

Using your fingers may seem like the fastest way to put on foundation, especially when you're on the go. However, with the many germs that exist on hands, your face might pay for it later. Besides, using your finger might actually be wasting foundation, according to Redbook. So, keep your skin — and wallet — happy by investing in a good foundation brush.

4. Matching Your Eyeshadow Color With Clothes

Although this is more of a fashion rule than anything, matching your eye makeup with the exact color of your outfit is definitely a no-no.

Instead, use a softer shade of the desired color, or even stick to neutrals so that no matter what you're wearing, your eyeshadow matches without looking over-the-top!

5. Not Blending Face Makeup With Your Neck

I know for me personally, this is something that I struggle to remember when I apply my daily products, but trust me: you'll notice later on.

Try to make it a habit that right after you apply your facial makeup, you give some extra strokes of bronzer and/or blush to your neck and chest area.

6. Storing Makeup Products In The Bathroom

If you're shocked right now because this is what you always do, don't be alarmed — you're definitely not alone.

However, it's good to be aware that much of the makeup we use has natural oils and waxes that are best preserved in cooler areas, according to Redbook. So, make a bit of room in your fridge for the products that you think might benefit from this rule.

7. Never Replacing Products

It's very important to know when it's time to finally toss out that stick of eyeliner, or replace that old concealer with a brand new one.

"Expiration dates" range from three months (mascara) to two years (blush and bronzer), according to All You. You want to make sure you don't waste your products and throw them out too soon — makeup doesn't come cheap!

8. Putting Foundation On A Completely Dry Face

This isn't something you have to worry about on a daily basis, just as long as you're exfoliating with moisturizer at least once a week, according to Bustle. Otherwise, you're skin might become much too dry, which you'll notice when flakiness starts developing on the surface of your face.

9. Using The Wrong Bronzer Or Shade Of Blush

It's all about choosing the right colors that work with your natural skin tone. For bronzer, make sure you don't go too dark and don't go overboard with applying it to your skin. And for blush, make sure that you choose a soft shade that looks fairly natural and blends with the rest of your look in an organic way.

10. Leaving Your Concealer Without A Finish

If you forgot to lock in your concealer, you might find that your makeup will look cracked or caked on. Make sure to add an extra layer of packed and translucent powder to the areas that you concealed in order to avoid any additional issues, according to Byrdie.

11. Getting Stuck In A Routine

Since your body changes over time, your normal products might eventually start making your skin breakout. This may be a sign to try something new — and have fun while you're at it.

Or even if this isn't the case, it's always good for your mental health to experiment and try a new look every now and then!
