Young Couple Takes To Costco To Stage Engagement Photos From The Heart

When most of us think about marriage and all of the traditions that lead up to a wedding, I think we almost universally think of hearts, flowers, and other classic trappings of romance.

After all, now that the engagement photo shoot is basically de rigueur, happy couples preparing to tie the knot have lots of opportunities to showcase their most romantic flights of fancy, as we saw with this adorable and elaborate 101 Dalmatians–themed shoot.

In fact, in some cases, the engagement photos are just as fancy as the wedding photos, if not more so, with lots of money and effort expended to create images that look just so for those all-important e-cards and Facebook announcements.

And, hey, if you ask us, there’s nothing wrong with opting for an extravagant, traditional look for your engagement photos. After all, who are we to say what should or shouldn’t be a part of anyone’s wedding experience?

That said, here at LittleThings, we do nurture a bit of a soft spot for pre-wedding photo shoots that are just a bit more, well, quirky, in nature…

Engagement and wedding photos — though very special and unique to the brides- and grooms-to-be — tend to follow some pretty standard formats.

For example, there's almost always a shot of the dazzling rings, usually displayed in a cutesy fashion.

And there's almost always a picturesque and sugary sweet kissing shot.

But recently, we came across an engagement photo shoot so unique, it made us do a double take…

Where it takes place? America’s favorite members-only warehouse store: Costco.

When Karinne and Dan decided to take their quintessential engagement photos, they knew they wanted to do it in a very unique way.

So the young couple headed to Costco, where they adorably showcased their undying love for one another — and for great bargains.

Karinne, the bride-to-be, originally posted the photos on the content-sharing website Reddit, and explained, “ I didn't like the idea of having the regular engagement pics (or really any, but our photographer offered to do it for free).”

Figuring presumably, "What the heck?" the couple decided that they would take advantage of the opportunity to show themselves in their element: shopping at Costco.

They took to the aisles in style, playing off a number of traditional poses, but making them all their own.

For example, at one point, Dan got down on his knee as if proposing all over again, but actually took the opportunity to tie a shoelace.

Says Karinne, “I thought it would be funny to have pictures of us doing really mundane things, and then decided it would be better to romanticize those mundane things.”

They certainly succeeded; we genuinely love this picture of the couple looking adoringly into each other’s eyes while hanging onto a six-month supply of butter.

Elsewhere, Dan showed off his muscles, heaving packs of bottled water over his shoulders, much to the delight of his smitten fiancée.

The setting may not be storybook, but he sure looks like a knight in shining armor!

The duo also made sure to capture the obligatory ring photo.

Karinne showcased her brand-new bling by propping her hand (and Dan’s) on top of a glass case of lovely-looking strawberry shortcakes, which we can only assume were selling for a great price.

They took a pause from the activities to enjoy a romantic bite to eat at the Costco food court.

Together, they shared hot dogs and a soda, under fluorescent overhead lighting, rather than by candlelight.

They also used their photos to hint toward the future.

In one memorable image, Karinne, standing next to the meat cooler, cradles what appears to be a pot roast in her arms.

Judging from the picture, they’re either thinking of parenthood, or of Sunday dinner.

And by the end of the night, they’re ready to take their romance on, to their shared destiny.

They leave Costco, ready to face the future, with a grocery cart as their chariot.

Congratulations and best wishes to the happy couple!
