These Abandoned Newborns Were Found In A Box. Why? My Heart Just Broke!

After hearing cries and squeaks coming from a cardboard box sitting outside a Pennsylvania Walmart, one shopper made a very unusual find in the parking lot.

Upon opening the box, the unidentified individual discovered seven newborn fox cubs! The babies, estimated to be 10 days old, were taken to the Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Educational Center in Stroudsburg, PA. Although people have found animals in cardboard boxes before, it is usually domesticated animals.

According to Director Kathy Uhler, all the babies would have died that night in the parking lot had they not been found. Now, the litter of five males and two females are all expected to survive. They are going to be raised together in a group this year and released back into the wild when they are old enough to hunt on their own. An investigation is currently being conducted to find out who dropped the cubs off and why they were left without their mother.

When I saw these angels, my heart nearly exploded. They are so adorable.

Thanks to one person's quick thinking, these fox cubs are going to be able to live long and healthy lives.  It’s good to remember that, if you ever find an animal in distress, you should contact a local humane society first before attempting to rescue an injured or orphaned animal yourself. The sooner you can get them the proper care, the better their chance of survival.
