If You’ve Heard Of The “Dad Bod” Trend, You NEED To See What She Has To Say About It

Forget about sexy six-packs and bulging biceps; What women really want is a body that says, "I go to the gym just about as often as I have a beer." That's the premise behind the "dad bod" trend, which has everyone celebrating the attractiveness of a man who looks like he takes care of himself, but not too much.

While it's great that ridiculous body standards for men are being tossed out the window in favor of something a bit more realistic, The Daily Show's  Jon Stewart and Kristen Schaal recently discussed the dad bod and brought up a point that had me shouting, "Yes!" at my computer screen.

Many women, such as new mom and singer Kelly Rowland, believe that spending time with their new baby is more important than dieting and hitting the gym as soon as they give birth. But instead of celebrating the fact that a woman just carried around a living human in her womb for nine months, the media instead focuses on how fast or slow she loses all the weight she gained during her pregnancy. Although some women, such as this model who caused controversy over her "pregnancy abs," do immediately get their pre-baby body back, you rarely hear any celebration over those that have the female equivalent of a dad bod.

Kristen's points are absolutely amazing, and I'm glad the world can now hear about them. While getting excited about the dad bod is great, let's not forget that mom bods are also beautiful whether or not you can tell that they've just given birth. It's past time to end impossible body standards for both sexes, one bod at a time.
