For most people, life inside a jail cell isn't something they can relate to.
Or, if they can, it isn't for as long as Danny Amos can remember being there.
After being arrested for the first time at 11 years old, Amos spent the better part of the next five decades behind bars — 13 of which were passed in solitary confinement.
Amos was left to a life of crime after his father was arrested and his mom no longer wanted to care for him. He was raised in the juvenile system and never quite escaped — despite a few escapes from prison.
He compiled a criminal record that would leave anyone shaking their head and had his parole agent sure he would end up back behind bars sooner or later.
But Amos defied the odds and managed to build an incredible life for himself outside of prison, but he didn't do it on his own.
The community of Balsam Lake, WI, has been with him the whole way.
From the fellow church member who taught him to drive a car, to his landlord, who just happened to be working at the local prison on the day he escaped, his community has helped him stay on the straight and narrow and avoid falling back into old patterns.
It's an amazing thing to see!
