This Man Brings Joy To The New York Subway With His “Date While You Wait” Booth

Life can sometimes be so full of hardship and negativity that it comes as a great breath of fresh air when someone does something to bring a little more positivity into the world.

As an optimistic person, I am always on the lookout for people sharing their joy and positive energy, just like the 90-year-old dancing grandmother. So when I saw this amazing story about what one young man was doing to change the lives of New Yorkers, I was truly impressed.

Thomas C. Knox is a 28-year-old man in New York City who has decided to change the way people ride the subway. He and his friends have been setting up a table and two folding chairs in subway stations with the sign "Date While You Wait". And in a city where subway riders have probably seen it all, they have never seen anything like this!

Offering strangers a chance to sit down for a one-on-one positive interaction, Knox is setting out to brighten the days of some of the toughest people around. Thomas's story is absolutely inspiring and heartwarming.

His aim is to bring a little bit of joy and humor to the lives of those hurriedly rushing off to their next destination. He told CBS New York, "I wanted to do something positive, so I was like, you know what? I'm just going to set up a table, and you know, sit down and have a conversation with people."

While Knox uses the word "date" on his sign, he told the New York Times, "I am not looking for love through this particular channel."

Instead, Knox simply invites people waiting on the subway platform to sit down for either a game or some conversation. He told CBS New York, "I just want you to have a conversation. Talk to me, tell me a little bit about yourself, tell me how your day went."

At the end of each subway "date," Knox gives his new friend a high five and hopes that his positive energy has rubbed off on them.
