Dennis Quaid is the latest super-rich 65-year-old man to fall in love with a very, very, very young woman. The movie star — who, no doubt, has aged very well — just got engaged to Laura Savoie, a 26-year-old PhD student. He's openly defending that choice, as he should, and who could be mad? Love is pretty great no matter who is doing the falling.
The things he said were actually very sweet, and he sounds happy and genuinely in love, to be quite honest. I mean, it would almost be cute if she wasn't younger than his own kids (well, at least his and Meg Ryan's son, who is, in fact, a year older than his new wife-to-be).
So what if this will be the actor's fourth wife? Yes, she's quite young. He is nearly three times her age. He is actually old enough to be her grandfather. But those are just numbers, baby. And when you're a man — a man in Hollywood, at that — numbers don't mean anything unless they're in your bank account.
Dennis opened up to The Guardian about the buzz surrounding his new engagement. “That was really a laugh,” he says of the news coverage. “I thought it was wonderful, actually.” We are glad he's in good spirits. Then again, why wouldn't he be? If ya know what I'm sayin'.
No doubt, Dennis is super in love and he's happy to come out and say it. Though, for a dude who has been married a couple of times before, ya know, love comes pretty easily. Or does it?
“I don’t fall in love easy," he said. "But I can’t let what a few people think control all that."
“It was kind of spontaneous. It was very much a surprise,” Dennis told Extra of the engagement, which happened while on vacation in Hawaii. “I had the ring in my pocket … It has been kind of a month-and-a-half plan … I wanted it to be private."
Truthfully, though, love rules, and we hope this marriage sticks for longer than like eight months (the length of at least one of his past marriages). If not for Dennis, then for his 12-year-old twins, who probably would be happy if their old dad just chilled out and settled down. As for Dennis' grown child, he probably won't be calling his new stepmom "Ma" or "Mommy" or even "Ma'am."
Because ya know, that would be weird.
