When you think of your home, what comes to mind as the dirtiest place or thing inside of it?

If I had to take a wild guess, I'd probably go with my bathroom. More specifically, the toilet seat.

The average toilet seat has about 50 different types of bacteria living on it at one time. That sounds like quite a lot, but when you hear these 14 places and things that have many times more bacteria than that, you might consider cooking your food in the bathroom instead of your kitchen. Well, hopefully you don't go that far.

These 14 dirty things are pretty darn surprising. Think about how often and carefully we clean our toilets; they are frequently disinfected and wiped down. They also are hard and aired out, as opposed to the absorbent and stuffy like the quality of some other places and objects in your home.

There are 400 times more germs on the average office desks than on toilets. Keep some disinfecting wipes around and you'll be just fine.

A computer keyboard can be a particularly bad offender, with 200 times more germs than a toilet. Yikes.

Your toothbrush is almost constantly moist, which makes it a breeding ground for bacteria. Not to mention that it is in the immediate vicinity of the germs that are launched into the air every time you flush your toilet. Make sure to replace your old toothbrushes regularly.

You may think that your sink is fine from all the cleaning you do in it, but that simply isn't the case. Its wet environment makes it perfect for E. coli to thrive in. All you have to do is give your sink as much attention as your dishes and you'll be golden!

A dollar can have up to 200,000 bacteria on it due to all the strange places it's been stored, hands it's passed through, and puddles it's been dropped into over the years. It might be worth it to carry hand sanitizer around for when you don't have the opportunity to wash your hands after using cash.

The moral of the story is, our toilet seats really aren't all that dirty, despite the connotations that we have with them. It's the rest of the home that we may just have to worry about!
