Almonds haven't been called a superfood for just any old reason. Not only are the nuts delicious, but they're also a really healthy treat that can fill you up with energy for quite a while.
Almonds are great in things like granola bars (which you can actually make in the comfort of your own home), but they can also help you remove scratches from your wood furniture (seriously!). Heck, even squirrels love almond butter!
With food allergies being so prevalent these days, and the growing number of people looking toward healthier alternatives, almonds have also become an essential part of many diets in the form of almond milk. The only problem, however, is that the delicious drink can be quite pricey.
However, that's one problem that's about to change, as the video below, from YouTuber WhatsUpMoms, will show you how to make your very own almond milk at home in only three super simple steps.
All you need to make your milk is:
- 1 cup whole raw almonds
- 3 1/2 cups filtered water
- 1/4 tsp of cinnamon (optional)
- 1/2 tsp of vanilla (optional)
Watch the video for the exact directions, but basically you’re going to soak the almonds in a bowl of water for at least 8 hours, but it’s best to let them soak overnight.
Then you drain your almonds and drop them in a blender with 3.5 cups of filtered water. Blend for 1 minute, strain the mixture through a nut bag, jelly strainer, or fine mesh sieve, stir in your additional flavors if you like, and then refrigerate the mixture.
Not only will this recipe give you a few days' worth of delicious almond milk, but it should save you money as well!
