We've shared several videos before that show you how you can cleverly and creatively use your own photos to make awesome gifts, decorations, and keepsakes for your home. Photos are always a very special thing to use because they hold such a dear place in our hearts. It might be a photo of your child or a long-since-passed family member, or even a once-in-a-lifetime moment that you just happened to capture.
That's why we absolutely love this video uploaded by Cooperative of Photography (COOPH on YouTube). In less than three minutes, the video will show you six different ways that you can use your own treasured family photos to make awesome DIY photography gifts for friends, family, or even yourself.
COOPH starts by demonstrating how to make do an iron-on photo transfer onto wood, then moves on to a more typical wood transfer (which we've shared a video about previously as well), a panoramic lamp, a unique candle holder, and a photo-inspired lantern.
They're all great little tips, but the best is easily the final DIY gift: a photo candle! By using a laserjet print of one of your photos, a candle, some wax paper, and a hairdryer, you can turn an ordinary candle into a beautiful keepsake.
First, cut out the wax paper to fit the shape of the candle and then hold your photo around the candle. Next, wrap the wax paper around the candle (on top of your photo) and hold it together while you use the hairdryer to warm the candle, causing the wax to melt ever so slightly.
Finally, pull off the wax paper, light up the candle, and you've got a great photo gift for the candle-lover in your family.
I don't know about you, but I'm definitely trying these DIY crafts, starting with the photo candle. How cool!
