One mother thought it was a good idea to cross the train tracks instead of taking her time and walking on an overpass, and she almost paid the ultimate price. This security footage is pretty scary to watch, but thankfully everyone came out safe and sound, though a bit rattled!
While most of us know not to walk across the train tracks, the same basic rules apply to railroad crossings as well as even crossing a road. There's an odd optical illusion that occurs with cars and trains or anything big. If a train is about 100 yards away traveling at 20 miles per hour, a train that's rushing at 60 miles per hour will look as if it's going the same exact speed.
Many people think they have more than enough time to make the crossing, but within an instant the train is suddenly much closer than expected, which in turn will cause someone to freeze in fear and possibly get themselves horribly injured.
Along with the huge amount of time it takes for any large vehicle to come to a stop, it's really up to us on the ground to make sure we avoid getting hit by these monster movers!
