A Pittsburgh firefighter battling ALS and his wife appeared on the "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" to share their inspirational story and thank their family and friends for their support during this overwhelming time. But, they didn't know she was about to surprise them with her own contribution.
During the emotional interview, Matthew Onyshko and his wife Jessica explained that after he was diagnosed, he wasn't sure how he'd support his family. That's when the incredible sacrifices from his fellow firefighters started pouring in. His firefighter pals have been working extra shifts for years since Onyshko's diagnosis to make sure he still gets paid and his family is okay. The touching story brought tears to everyone's eyes.
In true form, DeGeneres didn't let the firefighters and the family leave empty handed. For the firehouse, the talk show host sent a framed pair of her signature "Ellen Show" boxers. Then, the Onyshko family was presented with a check for $50,000! Wow.
