A reporter stopped baseball player Evan Longoria of the Tampa Bay Rays for an interview on the field. A few of his teammates are practicing in the background, then all of a sudden Longoria spots something out of the corner of his eye. It's a baseball headed straight for the reporter's head. Longoria keeps his cool and doesn't take his eye off the fast-approaching ball.
Then with his bare hands, he catches the ball, saving the reporter from serious injury or death. The lifesaving catch instantly went viral, with the clip garnering millions of views. After folks were stunned, Longoria revealed the clip was actually shot as an advertisement for Gillette — you can see their logo if you closely at the background! The stunt only took two minutes to shoot on a handheld camera. If you want to see a 100 percent real lifesaving catch, watch this dad intercept a baseball bat from hitting his son!
So the question that everyone wants answered is: Did he really catch that ball bare-handed? Yes! Or at least he claims.
"It's still real, by the way," Longoria told the Tampa Bay Times. Even if the stunt were totally staged for an ad, that is still one impressive catch. Many still debate whether the catch was real or not, and there has never been an official answer besides Longoria's account of the event.
Either way, we think this video is still pretty heart-stopping!
