Back in November of 2014, no one knew if our newest and next generation fighter aircraft was even capable of landing on an aircraft carrier, but as the multi-million dollar plane approached the flight deck of the USS Nimitz they were about to find out!
The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning has had a tough career already. Plagued with development delays and multiple changes since 2006, there were countless members of the U.S. Congress who wanted to kill this plane before it even had a chance to show the world what it was truly capable of.
The current estimated cost for just one of these next-generation jets comes to around $116 million! With a price tag like that, concerns on the program were understandable, but now it seems that this amazing fighter jet is just starting to show off its amazing capabilities!
As more information has become available, the F-35 program is proving to show it will be cheaper than initial estimates, and cost estimates should continue to decline as the program matures further and operating affordability continues to decrease.
But when you see the power that this new jet has to offer, you'll start to understand that its going to be a force to be reckoned with. With its stealth abilities, advanced weapons system, and extreme maneuverability, this plane will be the "go to" weapon for our Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps!
