When they say there's no sense of community anymore in the country, I look at this story and wonder what people are talking about. You may not see stories like this saturating the mainstream media, but small towns and communities are still the heart of America. Each small microcosm, each small story when pieced together, demonstrates the very fabric that keeps our society whole. This is one of those small stories. It's as small as a family business food truck, Pepe's Taco Truck, to be exact. The food truck was a local staple in Estacada, OR. But when the family patriarch became sick, they had to shut down the operation while he was in the hospital. When a customer got the news, he quickly came up with a small plan, which he had no idea would escalate so quickly. He told a few neighbors, who told their friends, who told their friends, and the act of kindness spiraled.
Community members came to the truck with dollar bills and tape in hand. Each person began taping the bucks onto the truck. In a few hours, they managed to raise over $3,000. The family had no inkling it was happening. When they were lured to the area as soon as they got out of the car — it was all tears! Tears and tissues and hugs. The family had no idea the community saw them this way, that the familiar faces they served their food to weren't just customers but family. You're going to need to get the Kleenex for this video!
