When Kada Staples got a notification on her phone that someone was at her door, she thought it might be a delivery or a neighbor. She never imagined that US Marshals would be demanding she open up, with guns drawn.
That was the reality of the scary situation that went down on a day when the Florida mom was home alone with her 3-month-old daughter. Marshals demanded that Kada come to the door immediately. She replied that she was putting her dog away in its crate.
"Tell him to come out with his hands up. We know he's in there. The place is surrounded," one of the two men replied.
Kada was wearing just a T-shirt when she cautiously answered the door with her baby girl in her arms. The marshals kept the guns pointed at her and her baby, believing that the murder suspect they were in pursuit of was inside.
"You guys came to the wrong apartment," she informed them.
"They're pointing guns at us. There's a gun about a foot away from her face," she explained to Inside Edition.
"I was terrified. I didn't really know what to do."
The officers realized their mistake and left without an apology.
"They just ran away leaving me there crying," she shared.
"About an hour later, one of the marshals came back upstairs and knocked. It wasn't necessarily an apology, more so an explanation."
The suspect was arrested in a neighboring apartment.
