Although he was born in 1899, Fred Astaire remains one of the most recognizable names in show business. As a master of singing and dancing, Astaire has created many memorable moments in film and on the stage, and to this day he influences many artists who aspire to be just as talented and innovative as he was. Now, 117 years after his birth, there are a multitude of ways to honor him and his career.
Throughout his career, Astaire collaborated with many other legends whose names are also just as recognizable. Many notable artists with whom he shared the stage include Ginger Rogers, Gene Kelly, and even Judy Garland! And it's this dance with Judy that really grabbed our attention…
In the 1948 film Easter Parade, the two stars play a dancing team, and they put on quite the show! In this clip, the two dance to the tune of "We're a Couple of Swells" and the result is hilarious! They don't just dress up in shabby, dirty clothes, and dance to a song. This performance is out-of-this-world, and makes its mark with one element in particular: their fake beards!
Now watch the clip to see these two awesome performers in action!
