A group in LA put up a bulletin board full of free dollar bills in a busy train station.
The sign read, "Give What You Want. Take What You Need."
But the real question was: Would the bulk of humanity reveal themselves to be takers rather than givers?
"The idea came out of a conversation with a few friends on generosity and how people, in general, want to help others," project co-creator Tyler Bridges told Upworthy.
The sentiment is nice, but so often when we expect the best from people, they can disappoint us. Still, sometimes they can surprise us, too.
This fast-food worker was caught on camera paying for two kids' meals when they were short on change. She risked her job to be more giving and asked for nothing in return.
So how do these strangers fare? "On the taking side, we had a few people that took in large amounts," Bridges said.
Moreover, would the people who took instead of donating be judged by the crowd? If you really needed the money on this day, would you take it or be too embarrassed?
"Everyone has had good days and bad days. Sometimes you need a helping hand — and sometimes you can be the one giving a helping hand," he said. "So don't be afraid to share the love. Help someone else out."
If you saw this bulletin board, how would you react? And how would you react to the other participants? Let us know in the comments!
