When I imagine my dream home, I know exactly what it entails: Red brick, lots of natural sunlight, a beautiful wraparound porch, and acres of sweeping land.
However, I'm a realist. I know that the chances are slim that I'll one day own the exact house of my dreams — and since it's really about where your heart is, I'm ok with that.
But thanks to all the wonderful DIY projects out there, any humdrum home can be transformed into one's ideal. All you need is a little inspiration and some rolled up sleeves!
Take for instance this amazing yard transformation. Dissatisfied with the state of their front yard, this family decided to give their home a little all-natural pizazz.
Now, after a bit of work and a lot of heart, their front yard doesn't just welcome friends and family, but beautiful wildlife, too!

After the winter snow thawed, this family decided it was time to give their front yard a makeover.

They began by breaking ground — but they found the hard Virginia clay was difficult to get up.

After they broke through, their next challenge was battling the old roots they encountered.

With the help of a pickax, they managed to dig out two nice rectangles.

Next, they put down a nice pond liner. Then, they grabbed their water hose and began to fill it up.

It only took a few hours to fill it to the top.

Once that was done, they lined the water with sandstone rocks. They also built a small waterfall with a 1" rubber hose and a pump.

After letting the water naturalize for a couple of weeks, they planted some pond greenery.

Their sweet pup, Claire, supervised the entire project.

"We have two cattails, one bamboo plant, two water lilies, and one plant that I don't know what it's called — but it blooms nice purple flowers in the springtime," they wrote in their photo captions.

Though they had intended to grow grass around the pond, they eventually found there was too much foot traffic — so they went with mulch and stepping stones instead.

Now, their pond and plant life are thriving!

It's so beautiful, it gets many little visitors who fill their summer nights with soothing sounds of nature.

Every morning, they're greeted by the open blooms of their water lilies; at night, they close up.

When the pond gets low in the summer, they refill it with all-natural rain water, which they collect in a barrel.
