Jake Bland was a kind man who had been met with many obstacles in his life. It took him a long time to find a job that sparked his interest, but when he started working as a waste management professional, things finally felt aligned.
Over the years, Jake found himself working alongside some colleagues who didn’t appreciate the work that they did every day. He tried his best to stay positive during his shifts to help show his coworkers that their work makes a difference in the lives of those in their community.
Jake’s job included working at the sanitation center and also doing a regular trash collection route where he collected neighborhood garbage once a week. Throughout the years, he got to know some of the families and individuals on his regular route.
According to WDRB.com, when Jake was working a shift at Hometown Hauling in Louisville, Kentucky, he noticed that a woman hadn’t put trash out in more than two weeks and he grew concerned that something wasn’t right.
The news outlet reports that when Jake saw this, he put in a call to dispatch to call the woman who owned the residence to make sure that she was OK. Bernice Arthur, the company’s operations manager, got on the phone and was told that the 90-year-old who lived in the nice neighborhood didn’t put out any trash for two weeks because she had run out of food.

The 90-year-old woman also divulged to dispatch that because this was taking place during the height of the global health crisis, she had no way to get out and get herself groceries. When Jake and Hometown Hauling trash collection heard about this, they decided to step in and help.
