Mysterious, abandoned places are some of the coolest things you can find on the internet. If there's a structure out there that was, at one time, occupied and has now become a forgotten piece of history, you can put money on the fact that someone will find it, head in there with a flashlight and a camera, and post those pictures online. And thank goodness for that — because we love this stuff.
While hiking in the woods of Northern Germany, a pair of friends stumbled upon some very strange-looking, mysterious pipes sticking out of the ground. The area, formerly known as the German Democratic Republic territory, was basically abandoned, but the friends didn't know much about what would be hiding out there in the woods.
They apparently had been there before, when they were much younger, but were never allowed to explore the area to its full extent. So now, as adults, they thought it might be the perfect time to find out just where those pipes lead.
With their flashlights and camera in hand, the two friends started exploring the area surrounding the pipes. As you'll see in the photo gallery below, they were not prepared for what they would find. To say they stumbled upon an old German bunker would be an understatement. This thing is creepy to the max and needs to be seen to be believed!

The mysterious pipes the friends found while exploring the woods in Germany.

The entrance to the long-abandoned bunker was covered by a wooden lid, but the friends removed it with a crowbar.

The iron door of the bunker. Its lock was broken so the friends couldn't get locked inside.

The first hallway was much like the rest of them — long and seemingly endless.

"What you can see here is what we would see for the next few minutes — nothing but endless, hospital-like hallways. The acoustics were, in a word, haunting."
A large pipe and a plastic supermarket bag lie on the floor of the hallway, so someone else had clearly been in the bunker as well.

The first intersection in the bunker. The friends decided to mostly continue straight down the hallway so they wouldn't get lost.

A dead end that appears at the end of one of those intersections. The small hole in the ground was apparently filled with dirty water.

A second dead end that the friends found at the second intersection. The graffiti-covered walls show that others have definitely been there.

The first of several long turns that the hallway made when the friends continued straight ahead.

A quick peek back towards the bunker's entrance. The friends were undecided, at this point, if they should continue.

"At this point we both were uncertain if we should proceed or get the hell out of there. But as this album continues, you already know our decision."
The long hallway's final corridor. The friends say that the graffiti on the left translates to "help."

At the end of the long hallways, the friends found this very heavy, yellow door.

"This big yellow door came out of nowhere. We were expecting (yet hoping) for an exit or another dead end. Further on we found several of them, torn out with force as it seemed. We had no clue how a single person or even couple people would be able to open those, since they seemed as heavy as bank vault doors."
A better look at the large, heavy door. Unfortunately, the friends could not make out what the letters on the door meant.

A sign that the friends found on the wall next to one of the broken doors. They say that it translates to "Exit No 2."

Then the friends came across these large, red pipes that they speculate may have been used for ventilation.

The friends continued down the hallway and through several more broken doors and came across more graffiti on the wall.

"After passing a lot — and I mean A LOT — of those heavy safe doors, another sign of human life appeared right in front of us. At this point the rooms seemed more and more wasted, as you can see the decayed walls."
Another look back from where they came, this view gives a better glance at just how many large, heavy doors the friends had now passed through.

A better look at the graffiti from one of the previous photos. The friends say it says, "Hallo Satan, I love you."

"The smell at this point turned out to be really bad, like rotten organic stuff and old water. Sewer-like, if you will."
A side view of the room with the "Satan" graffiti on the wall.

The friends then entered a rusty corridor as they explored further inside the bunker.

"The walls were massive and metal-like. My friend and I suspected it to be lead or something similar. Notice small red number on the wall '2211,' and the cryptic painting in the background made of black lines."
Continuing on, the friends entered a flooded hallway that sits just one step below the previous rooms. They decided to only peek their heads in to take a few photos.

This is the room the friends saw when they turned left from the flooded hallway. Another room, also flooded, with another large, red pipe.

They came across this pile of trash that immediately startled the friends because it looked eerily like a man crouching or sitting.

"This was the first time on the whole tour I literally panicked. Terrified by the silhouette of this pile of rubbish, resembling a crouching or sitting man, I screamed and nearly knocked over my friend. My bad he was scared to death as well."
They then came across another flooded hallway, but did not follow it as they didn't want to ruin their shoes.

The friends decided to head back from where they came from, but soon came across perhaps the coolest room in the bunker, which they dubbed "The Great Hall."

"When already heading back to where we came from, my friend found this spooky gem. It was the biggest room so far, but only visible through little square holes in the walls, like tiny crenels. So he put his camera through and took this sweet shots of a weird, big machine."
Another angle of "The Great Hall" reveals the back of the large machine from the previous photo.

Perhaps the creepiest image yet, this photo shows a pair of gloves left behind in a gap in the wall of "The Great Hall."

The friends also came across a shoe stuck in the mud on one of the bunker's floors.

As well as this sign on the floor, which they say translates to "stay back" or "keep clear."

The friends would only get two more photos snapped before their camera's battery died. Right next to "The Great Hall" they found this hatch that looks like something out of a submarine.

Through the hatch, the friends were able to capture this final image before their camera died. It is, perhaps, a fitting end to this very creepy tour of an abandoned German bunker.

"This is the ceiling of the probable reservoir. These spikes looked just like icicles, but more likely were some kind of mineral phenomenon. Right after this shot the camera went down and we headed back to the entrance. As this post proves, we both survived. Nonetheless, it was the spookiest trip of my life."
