Becoming an Army Ranger is one of the most grueling tests of physical strength, mental control, and all around willpower that a human being could possibly volunteer themselves to go through.
Since the Revolutionary War, the term Ranger has been officially used for crack groups of soldiers, willing to go into the thick of the fighting without a second thought. Being an Army Ranger has always been a boys club, but now it seems there are a few women who want to give it a shot.
At Georgia's Ft. Benning, a group of 19 women have willingly entered Ranger school, fighting in a two-month long battle to defeat one of the toughest tests out there. Fighting against extreme hunger, overwhelming fatigue, and even hallucinations, these women are not being given any easy treatment by their drillmasters.
Nine women have dropped out in the first three days, but that's about normal when compared to the male dropout rate. Ranger recruits who make it through the first couple of days have their odds for success significantly increase.
However, even if these women make it through the two-month course, they won't get the honor of being placed in a combat role. Currently, this is just a test from the government to see how women will perform in this intense training course.
Whether or not these tough women make it through the course we should all be proud of them for giving it their all to prove that they can keep up with the boys. These ladies aren't trying to make history, they're just trying to make it through training, one day at a time!
