One Saturday afternoon in 2019, a family from Michigan checked into their Fort Lauderdale hotel in Florida and quickly ran down to the beach for a day of fun in the sun. But seconds after stepping foot onto the sand, they came upon a sight that left them frozen in awe.
Meanwhile, another family was relaxing on the same beach when they noticed a large crowd of people gathering around some kind of object.
So what was all the fuss about?
A wooden cross had suddenly washed ashore — a massive 20-foot cross that was covered from top to bottom in layers of barnacles and other signs of sea life.
"Why would the sea finally cough it up at just that moment if it wasn't meant for us to find it?" Greg Gay told Fox 17.
Many called the discovery a "holy sign" and "divine timing." Frank Talerico, who owns the hotel near where the cross wound up, believes it's a symbol of protection. He also claims his sister had woken up that day from a bad dream and began to pray. It wasn't long after that the giant cross appeared on the shore.
Ever since the story broke, people have been visiting the religious symbol in droves. However, its origin is a complete mystery.
