Owners Find Out Where Their Cats Go With A GPS ‘Cat Tracker’

"Cats are really unique because they're the only pets we have that we just give free license to roam wherever they want if we let them outside." This has laid the foundation for a new GPS tracking system called “Cat Tracker,” which aims to tell us exactly where our feline friends end up after we open the back door. Shelby Anderson, a post baccalaureate scholar at North Carolina State University, explains further that most of us think we know where our cats go — and most of us are wrong.

But there’s a larger issue at play, one that actually threatens our environment. "Cats are known globally as a big threat to conservation because they kill so many animals," says Roland Kays, director of the Biodiversity Lab at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.

We all know that cats simply don’t care if they’re in the wrong place at the most inopportune time. They’re wicked smart and need constant stimulation in order to stay occupied, which is why these carpenters build a jungle gym specifically designed for them. But when playtime is over, where do they end up? What mischief are they creating?

Thanks to the “Cat Tracker,” we now have a better idea — but I won’t spoil it for you. Suffice it to say that you just might be surprised when you find out how far your feline furball has traveled!
