Police Officer Caught Off Guard By Grandma Who Wants A Hug

When Mary walked into the Lake Arbor Police Station in Arvada, CO, she didn’t consider that the surveillance cameras were rolling. Still, Mary did what she had to do.

She marched into the station and demanded one shocking request from an officer: a hug.

“[She] was extremely upset about the recent loss of so many officers across the country,” dispatchers wrote on Facebook. “She came in to give a HUG to an officer.”

Officer Chris Steiner, a 20-year-old veteran, was the lucky cop who got to receive that great big hug.

“It’s nice to be on the positive side of things. Sometimes you need to put something in the bank on that side after all we see on a daily basis,” Steiner told 7NEWS. “I go to almost every fatality that we have and every major crime that we have, and it’s nice to get a hug as compared to looking over the trauma.”

This isn’t the only incident where regular folks decided to show their gratitude for the men and women in blue. Maggie Miller and Carly Monroe baked cookies for officers after learning their beloved dog passed away. Since the story broke on Facebook, it went viral. Many are just happy to see a little bit of positivity in times that can feel quite bleak.

“While a bit of a reach because of his size, she managed to get ahold of him and hugged him great; not once but twice!” the dispatchers wrote.
