Haley Webb has made a lot of sacrifices throughout her life. But that’s what a soldier’s daughter does.
For the first six years of her life, her father, Sergeant First Class Jason Webb, was deployed in Iraq and they barely got to see each other. And now he’s been gone again for nearly two years.
“Not seeing my daughter grow up for the past year and a half — words can’t describe it,” Jason said.
Haley doesn’t like it when he’s gone, but she puts on a brave face anyway.
But now she won’t have to because her dad is about to surprise her.
Haley had told her mom and her dad that she had seen all the YouTube videos of service members coming home and surprising their families, and she wanted one of her own. So her dad came up with a plan.
He made sure his daughter would have no idea he was home, and then Haley was asked to introduce a special guest at her school’s Veterans Day assembly. But what she didn’t know was the biography she was reading was her dad’s.
She gets about halfway through, and you can tell that she’s beginning to put the puzzle pieces together. And then when she finishes, she looks up just in time to see her dad walking across the gym to give her a big hug.
“About halfway through I thought it could be him, but I was just so happy,” Haley said. “Christmas came early!”
And now after nearly two years, her hero is finally home where he belongs!
